A great days hurling in Westmanstown today for the inaugural Donal Gleeson Féile Beag.
Four teams; Garda Westmanstown Gaels, Lucan Sarsfields,
St Peregrines and Thomas Davis came together for a celebration of hurling and all the teams contributed to what was a fantastic tournament in blistering heat.
In the group stage there was a feast of hurling with nothing between the teams, in fact the group stage finished with 3 teams on 4 points with the hosts being the unlucky ones to miss out on a cup final spot on score difference.
So, after a short lunch break it was GWG V Peregrines in the Shield final and Lucan Sarsfields in the Cup final.
The hosts running out victorious in a well contested shield final. The cup final was a testament to the day with both sides finishing level at full time, it went to extra time with the Sarsfields lads having a little bit more in the tank running out 3 point winners.
The closeness and the spirit the matches were played in were a tribute to all the coaches and players from all 4 teams.
Well done to Sarsfields on the cup win and Westmanstown on the shield win.
From little acorns mighty oak trees grow; judging by the success of todays event, the Féile beag won’t be very ‘beag’ for long. 🙏🏼
