U15 Boys Hurling Shield Semi Final
GWG v St Sylvester's GAA
Jerome Twomey Park - 16/04/2023
U15 boys played their feile shield semi final today in a sun drenched Jerome Twomey Park although the ground was still heavy both sides played out a rip roaring clash that could have gone either way.
The home side started really well with Aidan Doyle and Ewan Trunk causing all sorts of problems for the full back line. A goal from Eoin Murphy and the pin point accuracy from Aidan Doyle with frees built up a good lead. Harry Walsh an Sean Solan also got on the score sheet in the first half but the tireless work of the two Sean's, Lynch and O Brien was something to behold. A goal against the run of play kept the away team in the game.
Most of the Sylvesters attacks were repelled by a very active half back line of Adam Kelly Daniel White and Colm Murphy who were in control in the first half and anything that did sneak past was cleaned up by the emperious Luke Birmingham assisted brilliantly by Conor Teehan and Jack Sheridan with goalkeeper Alex O Neill firing puck outs straight to hand starting many an attack.
Half time score GWG 1-7 St Sylvester’s 1-1
Possibly a bit of over confidence crept into the home team for the first ten minutes of the second half and the visitors took full advantage firing 3 quick goals to the back of the net.
The game called for a few changes, and with Morgan Gladney, Senan Farrell and Darragh Burns all now in the fray the home team again began to settle and work their way back into the game.
Darragh Burns fired over a point from an impossible angle to raise the home teams spirits. Eoin Murphy got his mojo back and ,to their credit, the defence led by Luke Birmingham and Adam Kelly slammed the door shut when the visitors advanced.
There was no panic from the lads on the pitch but fingernails were down to the quick on the sideline.
From Aidan Doyle with the perfectly placed sliotars, the endless energy of Sean Solan, the pinpoint accuracy of Eoin Murphy, to the brick wall determination from Luke Birmingham and Co at the back, these performances made all the difference.
The home team came out winning by 2 points in the end.
Great game - Great team
