U16 Boys A Hurling Championship Shield Quarter Final v St. Oliver Plunketts ER in Martin Savage Park.
Our great rivalry with Plunkett’s continued today in Martin Savage Park in good conditions.
As per usual, this game was a tight contest throughout. Plunkett’s scored a well taken early goal to give them a narrow lead into the wind. WMT kept chipping away at their lead and by halftime the score was Plunkett’s 1-5 WMT 0-8 . WMT took the lead with a couple of excellent points early in second half and with 10 minutes to go were 3 points up but Plunkett’s then scored 3 long range frees.
With time running out Senan Bolger won a ball and was fouled and Conor Dillon who was excellent on the frees scored the winning score.
Final score Plunkett’s 1-11 WMT 0-15
This truly was a team win but Luke Mooney for his heart and determination, Thomas Quigley for his great defensive display at full back, and Sam Curran had an excellent second half and got a superb point from a tight angle into the wind. There was some excellent second half scores and Conor Dillon’s skilfulness deserves a special mention.
WMT now will play away to Castleknock in the Shield A Championship Semi Final on Saturday 5th November 2022.
