Our Under 16 Boys made the short trip to Somerton on Saturday afternoon to play their penultimate ‘D’ Hurling Championship fixture against Castleknock B. This was essentially a semi-final for the boys as a win would set up a Championship decider against Bohernabreena/St. Columbas in Westmanstown on Saturday week.
Our playing panel of 16 boys for the match included the support of 6 Under 15’s who have played up every second week to support the U16 team.
This was an extremely competitive game with Castleknock B, playing on their main pitch in Somerton for the first time and smarting after their football shield defeat against us last week they had a point to prove and hurled with tremendous effort from the throw in. The lead changed hands throughout the first 3 quarters with goals keeping Westmanstown in front heading into the last quarter. Credit to Castleknock they put everything into that last quarter however, our defense was not to be breached as we held on to win by 7 points.
After such a long season, now extended into December, it was fantastic to see the boys enjoy the rewards of their efforts yesterday. The victory was built on hard work, application, plenty of skills and their willingness to contest for every ball as we entered the home straight. They should be very proud of their performance
The boys play St. Peregrines in the ‘D’ Football Shield Final in Blaketowns Road on Saturday next. All support from the club would be greatly appreciated.
