Our U15 Boys had their last match of the B Football qualifying competition today away to Cuala A. The stakes were high for both teams as they were both in contention to qualify for the division 3 Feile with a win. Westmanstown had just the bear 15 players as the injury curse that has beset this team this summer struck again before the throw in as Philip Mitten was unable to take part.
The match started badly for Westmanstown with a few errors seeing Cuala race into a 1-2 to 0-0 lead. As this team has shown all year they battled back and by halftime the score was Cuala 2-2 to WMT 1-3. By the last water break WMT led by 3-4 to 2-4 thanks to great team determination and a couple of cracking goals from Senan Bolger. Cuala applied the pressure in the last quarter but WMT held out to win on a score of 3-6 to 2-8.
As a result of this win WMT finished second in the qualifying group of 8 teams. The division 3 championship/ Feile starts in 3 weeks and this team have a great chance of success in same if they get a bit of luck and stay injury free. The coaches want to thanks each member of the panel who help WMT to fulfil each football fixture throughout the injury crisis that this team had this summer. The results are a credit to the depth of this panel of players. Westmanstown ABU.
