U11 girls kicked off their season with a trip out to beautiful Ballyboughal for some football. With home advantage and decent numbers on the subs bench, St Peters looked a force to be reckoned with.
Both sides were finding their feet in the opening few minutes after what has been far too long an absence from fixtures, but all the training and dedication from the Gaels began to pay off.
The lucky few who ventured over to offer support were treated to some fantastic football.
Westmanstown were strong in maintaining possession, supplying the ball up the pitch from defence to midfield with ease and confidence. Hand passing was quick, and the girls, working in twos and threes all the time, had the opposition on the backfoot more than a few times. Westmanstown fought hard in defence, attacked with force and the midfield always provided a helping hand at both ends of the pitch, when needed.
As coaches, we try our best to teach the basic skills and hope the kids enjoy themselves in the process, but these U11girls displayed creativity, flair and enthusiasm that went above and beyond the call of duty.
A big thank you to the U13Girls and the U10Girls teams for two midweek matches, those challenge games really helped prepare our girls for today.
