Westmanstown Gaels under 16 girls played their third and final round robin league cup game against Naomh Olaf’s on Sunday afternoon. It was a tough game played in  dry but breezy conditions at Jerome Twoomey Park.

Westmanstown captain Lia Cronin won the toss and elected to play into the wind. Olaf’s played the better football in the first half and led by 1-3 to 2-2 at halftime.
Our girls were guilty of giving the ball away and putting them selves under pressure. However after the break they upped their game and made good use of the wind. Towering performances in defence from all the backline kept Olaf’s to 3 points in the second half. Meanwhile the efficiency of the forwards improved and they clocked up 13 scores including a lovely goal by Emma Fay. Katie Murphy, Zeta Hemeryck and Alyssa Cormican all added great points and Lia Cronin scored a free from about 45 metres albeit with the aid of a bounce! The final score was 2-14 to 2-5.

This was the girls 3rd win out of 4 competitive games in Division 2 having beaten Naomh Olaf’s, Thomas Davis and Na Fianna A and losing to a powerful Kilmacud Crokes A side. Onwards and upward for this team in 2020.
