Today the amalgamated Minor boys of St. Peregrines/Garda Westmanstown Gaels took on Fingallians away in the Hurling B Championship Semi Final. I would like to thank the fantastic support that we have received from both clubs today and for all our games throughout the year, it hasn’t gone unnoticed by both players and coaches.
We knew we were up against strong opposition as we had won Division 4 in the league and they had won Division 3 in their league. The first half started off nip and tuck as we exchanged point for point and went into half time 1-9 to 0-9 (3 points down).
The lads came out fighting for the second half where we pulled the score back to within a point. Unfortunately Fingallians got 2 goals in quick succession and put the lads under pressure to close the game out. With the team’s drive and work rate the score line didn’t reflect the final score of the game today.
From being with these boys in nursery to young men today, it has been an honour and privilege to see them grow and develop over the many years. I have to say I thoroughly loved every minute of it over the years-now time for a mini break.
As they move into adult Hurling and Football which some have gained experience in supporting already, I look forward to seeing them on the field over the coming years. With these players I very strongly believe that they will win a championship for the club in the near future.
I would like to thank all the parents from the bottom of my heart for their support over the years, from arranging lifts for players and also for doing umpire. To Sue Dillon - thank you for doing the stats and Lorraine O Connor - thank you for all the photos.
It has been a pleasure working alongside Seamus Wallace, Cillian Byrnes, Damian Brady, Brendan Dunne and Mark McSherry even though we all kept each other calm throughout the games on the sidelines!!!
To all the U16 players thank you for supporting our matches and training and I wish you and the coaches the best of luck as you move into the Minors for next year.
