To support our ever growing games programme, Dublin GAA is looking to recruit additional referees.
A continued shortfall in available referees at adult level in Dublin may result in games being postponed, with up to 130 games scheduled to place every weekend.
Our Referees Coordinator Paddy Kiernan ensures that games are, thus far, very rarely postponed. However, the growing number of games every year means that resources are stretched to the limit.
Dublin GAA is appealing to clubs and members to increase the referees pool by taking the new referees course- details below.
The benefits of refereeing include:
- Fitness - A great way to keep fit
- Give something back to the game - offers players at the end of their playing days the opportunity to continue in the sport
- Personal Development- help to develop communication and personal skills that are beneficial in all walks of life
- Learn more about the game and its rules
What qualities are required:
- Good knowledge of the playing rules
- Be physically and mentally fit
- Have the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Have the moral courage to make decisions which are correct
Coiste na Réiteoirí are running a referee course for both adult football and hurling on May 13th and May 20th at Parnell Park.
Attendance is mandatory on both nights, as well as two modules which are covered prior to May 13th online.
