U15 Boys Match Report – 21st April 2024
Feile Semi -Final Hurling Div 6
Garda Westmanstown Gaels v Scoil Ui Chonaill / Craobh Chiarain

On a long overdue sunny afternoon in Westmanstown, our U15 boys took to the manicured pitch, in a much-anticipated hurling semi-final pairing.
It was a bruising encounter, and though our boys gave advantage to the opposition in terms of physical presence, they reigned supreme in terms of skills, and our hurling pedigree shone the brightest.
Nip & tuck for the first half, as the scores were traded evenly enough and only 2 points separated the teams at the midpoint, with the visitors in front. Considering that a few scores had gone a begging, and the crossbar rattled, we were unlucky to be in that position. The attitude and work rate were top notch, and a good start of the second half was critical.
And a good start was provided, with a flurry of points that saw us into the lead. Though Aidan Doyle was our scorer in chief, having 6 other players on the scoresheet was the telling factor. Some wayward discipline saw the opposition reduced to 14 early in the second half, which was followed by 2 more early departures later in the game, as it finished 14 players for GWG  v 13 players for the opposition!
On the first warm day of the year, fatigue was always going to be a factor, and the quality of the substituted players who came on brought renewed energy to the field, and saw us home, with a scoreline that probably flattered us a bit, thanks to a late goal from Elliot Cox.
Credit to our defence, who didn’t give an inch in the face of some physical challenges as game ensued. Marshalled by Colm Murphy & Jack Sheridan, the commitment was absolute & Jamie Lang, Eoin Gleeson, Liam Foran, all played their part. Henry Todd & Conor Teehan led by example with their work rate as did the tireless work of Sean Lynch & Harry Walsh in mid-field, who seemed to pop everywhere on the pitch. Up front Sean Solan, Cillian Doherty, and Ollie McCormack all contributed to the scoreboard. Credit also to Daniel Mulryan, Teddy Spillane, Daniel Wallace, Jamie Colgan, and Shane Flanagan for some gritty performances.
Final Score 4-12 to 3-6, and on to another cup final we go!
It’s the business end of Feile, both hurling & football, and having 2 Cup Finals to contest in the next few weeks is just reward for this talented and committed panel!
